On July 27, 2018, Talaniue, a news company providing coverage in Niue, published an article detailing the 2018-2019 budget passed by the Niue Assembly, mentioning the Chinese Embassy donation of $20,000 USD to Premier Talagi of Niue to use at his discretion. The article states the donation aided in funding the Premier's visit to Hon Peters, some funding was given to the Village of Alofi South for their Show Day – where they hosted the Chinese Ambassador –, and some was used for senior students of Niue High School.
