Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On December 17th, 2014, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) signed an agreement with the University of Edinburgh to provide a USD 1.2 million grant for the renovation of the Confucius Institute for Scotland in the University of Edinburgh as part of its designation as a "Model Confucius Institute". The total budget of the project is USD 1.6 million. Within the agreement, Hanban agrees to provide USD 1.2 million, 80% of which is immediately allocated by bank transfer while the remaining 20% is allocated after the project is checked and accepted. The University of Edinburgh will provide the other USD 400,000 of the project and undertake the implementation of the project. Other recurrent costs and expenses for utilities will be shared equally for the first five years. After, cost sharing will be negotiated based on the institute's income sources. If the agreement is terminated, the University will refund the entire fund. The agreement stipulates that the project must be completed within 24 months of the agreement. The project renovated and added two buildings at Nos 79 & 81 Dalkeith Road to the Confucius Institute, designating the institute as the world's first "Confucius Campus". The original Confucius Institute project -- also funded by Hanban -- can be found in Record ID#44317. The project added six teaching and study rooms as well as a specialist library to the institute. The Model Institute was officially opened on September 19th, 2016.
