Project narrative
On June 26, 2017, a grand ceremony for the opening of the Confucius Classroom at Carmel College was held at Carmel College. The Confucius Classroom status was awarded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) in recognition of the school's achievements in Chinese language and culture education, providing Carmel College with a grant to build a new dedicated classroom for Chinese teaching and a new study area with computers, tables, and comfortable chairs. The Confucius Classroom was running before it was officially opened. Carmel College is the first designated Confucius Classroom created under the Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool. The classroom currently serves over 60 students. The original Confucius Institute project is tracked under Record ID#44318.
Staff comments
1. While no explicit mention of a Hanban grant is provided, because Confucius Classroom is the official name of a common grant project funded by Hanban, AidData has opted to record this project accordingly. 2. This project is not to be confused with Record ID#90364, the Carmel Confucius Classroom under the SSAT Confucius Institute. Both schools share the same name but are organized under different Confucius Institutes. 3. AidData has coded Xi'an Jiaotong University as the implementing agency because Xi'an Jiaotong University is the Chinese partner institution for the Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool, which oversees this Confucius Classroom.
