In September 2010, the Confucius Classroom status was awarded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) to Carmel College in recognition of the school's achievements in Chinese language and culture education, officially establishing the Carmel Confucius Institute and providing the school with additional funding. The Carmel Confucius Classroom provides Chinese classes to students from year 7 to year 11 and to students of all grades in 3 primary schools in the surrounding area. The Confucius Classroom is created under the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT) Confucius Institute. The original Confucius Institute project is tracked under Record ID#89914.

As a Confucius Classroom, the project is funded by grant by Hanban. The monetary value of the grant is unspecified. This project is not to be confused with Record ID#90314, the Confucius Classroom at Carmel College under the University of Liverpool. Both schools share the same name but are organized under different Confucius Institutes.
