Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On February 28, 2019, the China Wildlife Conservation Association signed an agreement with the Moscow Zoo to send two giant pandas to Russia for a fifteen-year period with the goal of contributing to research surrounding panda reproduction. The two pandas, named Ru Yi and Ding Ding, departed from Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan Province, on April 29, 2019, and arrived at the Moscow Zoo on the same day. The leaders of the two countries visited the pandas on June 5th, 2019. On January 21, 2020, the Chinese ambassador visited Moscow Zoo and bring the pandas new year gifts. This is the second time a pair of giant pandas were sent from Sichuan Province to Moscow; a pair of pandas were also sent in 1957.
