Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On July 6, 2018, the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Debrecen signed an agreement to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Debrecen. As part of the agreement, Hanban provided $150,000 USD in start-up funding, at least RMB 150,000 worth of teaching materials, and Chinese language teachers. Hanban also agreed to provide annual funds based on the annual need of the institute, dispersed through a special account for independent accounting for the Confucius Institute. The agreement stipulates an audit report every two years and has a 5-year validity and automatically renews at the end of every 5-year term. The institute was approved in August 2018. On December 4, 2018, the University of Debrecen and Tianjin Foreign Studies University -- the cooperating partner -- signed a supplementary implementation agreement to establish the institute. On November 15, 2019, the Confucius Institute at the University of Debrecen was officially opened as marked by an opening ceremony.
