Project narrative

The Confucius Classroom at East Ayrshire Council was established in January 2009. It is hosted at Grange Academy, Kilmarnock in East Ayrshire.The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) awarded the Confucius Classroom status in recognition of the school's achievements in Chinese language and culture education, providing Grange Academy with a grant. It provided young people with direct links to China, encouraging learning, and cultural exchange. According to Daily Record, Learning and Teaching Scotland funded the set up of the Confucius Classroom. According to WiredGov, Learning and Teaching Scotland signed an agreement with Chinese authorities in April 2008 to open eight Confucius Classroom Hubs within one year. According to the Hanban website, the Confucius Classroom started operating on August 31, 2015. The Confucius Classroom’s partner school is Tianjin Xinhua Middle School.
