Project narrative

On May 26, 2020, the Chinese Embassy provided 1500 food packages to Ecuador for those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. A video donation ceremony was held in which César Litardo, the President of the Ecuadorian National Assembly, received the donation. The food kits were to be distributed to the Los Ríos province, as well as other unspecified locations in Ecuador.

Staff comments

1. It may be the case that subsequent donations of food kits by the Chinese embassy to other provinces in Ecuador were part of this initial donation. Record ID#95262 captures a donation of 400 kits to Cotopaxi, #95266 captures a donation of 940 kits to Manabí in 2021, and #95264 captures a likely donation of 1000 kits to Galápagos in or about November 2020. However, there is insufficient evidence for the time being to assume the kits handed over in #95262, #95266, and #95264 were originally granted via this project, #91022. Further, the number of kits donated in subsequent food package projects exceeds 1500, indicating that at least some were separate grants.
