On November 6, 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka provided a LKR 1.094 million cash grant to an unnamed special education school in Hambantota. It is unclear how exactly these funds were spent. In January 2019, the Chinese Embassy provided a separate cash grant to the Ape Patauw Special Education School (Record ID#71786).
