Description

On June 9, 2020, the Chongqing Municipal Government provided a donation of 3,700 sets of medical protective clothing and 300 infrared forehead thermometers to the Government of Uruguay to be used to combat the COVID - 19 pandemic. Harvard's Mask Diplomacy dataset estimates the donation was worth USD 60,000. 272 of the thermometers were distributed to the National Administration of Public Education. Chongqing and the San Jose Province in Uruguay have had a sister city agreement since 2018. This donation to the Uruguayan Government follows a donation from Uruguay to Chongqing earlier in the pandemic, a donation by the city's CCPIT branch to the Uruguayan MFA in April (captured via project #91548), and a donation by a group of public and private organizations in Chongqing in May 2020 to San Jose (captured via project #68935).
