Project narrative

On or about April 13, 2020, Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. handed over a donation of 10,000 disposable masks to the Uruguayan Embassy in China. The masks were subsequently handed over to the Government of Uruguay and distributed to various institutions to help combat COVID-19, including the National Emergency System (SINAE). According to reporting from El País, 5,000 of the masks were destined to go to rural schools. The date that the masks arrived in Uruguay is unknown. Harvard's Mask Diplomacy dataset estimates the donation had a value of USD 4,000. This was a part of a larger donation that Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. of 700,000 pieces of various medical supplies to 20 countries that was started in late February.
