Project narrative

On September 19, 2020, China's Fujian Province dispatched the 16th medical team to Botswana. The team consisted of 46 members and stayed in Botswana for two years, departing on September 28, 2022. The team was dispatched to Botswana to assist in COVID-19 treatment, prevention efforts, and general medical aid. According to the Fujian Government, by August 31, 2021, the team had received 26,971 outpatients, 14,015 inpatients, and performed 2,926 surgeries in Botswana. On September 18, 2020, the Fujian Provincial Health Commission held a departure ceremony for the medical team. Ambassador Wang Xuefeng, Counselor Wang Bangfu, Counselor Yang Xunlei, all the staff of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, Fang Shaoxiong, members of the Party Group of Fujian Provincial Health and Health Commission, and the members of the 16th medical aid team participated in the event. On September 28, 2022, a farewell ceremony was held for the team in Botswana where the Botswana minister of health thanked the team for their work.
