Project narrative

According to the Government of Ethiopia’s Aid Management Platform, on May 6, 2019, the Chinese Government and the Government of Ethiopia signed a grant agreement worth ETB 64,768,991 for the Anti-Locust Supplier Equipment Project. The purpose of the project was to supply anti-locust equipment — including 72 tons of pesticides, 2,000 units of hand-held ULV sprayers, as well as 20,000 sets of personal protective gear — to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The Chinese Government disbursed ETB 64,768,991 in support of this project on May 10, 2019. The equipment was delivered on October 19, 2020. In 2019 and 2020, Ethiopia was suffering from the worst desert locust invasion in about 25 years, affecting major crop-producing parts of the country.
