The Confucius Classroom at South Otago High School was established on September 19, 2016. The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) awarded the Confucius Classroom status in recognition of the school's achievements in Chinese language and culture education, providing South Otago High School with a grant. It was the 29th Confucius Classroom to be established in New Zealand and the Confucius Institute at University of Canterbury’s 8th Confucius Classroom in South Island. The original Confucius Institute project is tracked under Record ID#44177.
