Project narrative

On April 30, 2020, the Chinese government sent an epidemic expert team to Djibouti to provide COVID-19 response and prevention assistance. This epidemic expert team consisted of 12 members. The National Health Commission formed the team and members were personally selected by the Sichuan Provincial and Tianjin Municipal Health Commissions. The team arrived at Djibouti’s Ambouli International Airport on April 30, 2020. Zhuo Ruisheng, China’s Ambassador to Djibouti, the representative of the Djibouti government, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health, the General Counsel of the Ministry of Health, and the relevant leaders of the National Anti-Epidemic Emergency Leadership Committee received the team at the airport. On May 3, 2020, Prime Minister Kamil of Djibouti met with the epidemic expert team at the People's Palace in Djibouti. Zhuo Ruisheng, the Ambassador to Djibouti, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Djibouti, the Minister of Health, and the Presidential Health Advisor attended the meeting. On May 10, 2020, Prime Minister Kamil of Djibouti awarded the Independence Day National Medal to all 12 members of the epidemic expert team at the Djibouti People's Palace. This medal was awarded in recognition of the expert team's contribution to Djibouti's fight against the epidemic. Djibouti’s Foreign Minister, the Minister of Health, and China’s Ambassador to Djibouti, Zhuo Ruisheng, attended the ceremony. The expert team departed Djibouti and returned to China on May 11, 2020. Djibouti Foreign Minister Yusuf and the Minister of Health held a ceremony at the airport to see the expert group off on behalf of the Djibouti government. Zhuo Ruisheng, China’s Ambassador to Djibouti, was also present at the send-off.
