Project narrative

On June 1, 2020, a handover ceremony was held in which the Chinese Embassy handed over personal protection equipment to the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). The ceremony was held at the Chinese Embassy. The Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Malawi Wang Xinsheng, the Executive Director of CHAM Happy Makala, and Ethel Kapyepye, the Chief Director in the Ministry of Health responsible for safe motherhood and maternal health, attended the event and delivered speeches. Nearly 50 people, including officials from the Malawi Ministry of Health, CHAM representatives, media reporters, and embassy staff also attended the event. According to The Nation, the donated materials included 5,000 face masks and 2,500 hospital caps. These materials donated by China will be distributed to medical staff at the 179 health facilities run by CHAM across Malawi.
