Project narrative

On July 28, 2020, a ceremony was held at the Kamuzu Presidential Palace for the donation of anti-epidemic materials to Malawi's First Lady, Monica Chakwera, on the behalf of China’s First Lady Peng Liyuan. Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Liu Hongyang, the First Lady of Malawi, and Malawi’s Minister of Health attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The supplies, which included thermometers and face masks, are intended to help mothers, youths, and health workers. The donation was made at the behest of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development and was part of a larger donation initiative of COVID supplies to 53 African countries. The Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Malawi and the Malawi Minister of Health signed the handover certificate for the anti-epidemic materials on behalf of the two governments.
