On November 4, 2021, the Chinese government provided food aid to Zambia. The donation included 3,099 tons of Chinese yellow corn. This food was donated to help citizens of Zambia overcome the aftermath of recent droughts. The maize will be distributed to vulnerable families by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) of Zambia. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. A handover ceremony was held for this donation in Lusaka, Zambia. Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, the Minister of Finance and National Planning of Zambia, and Li Jie, the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. The Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Vice President of Zambia, the Acting Coordinator of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) of Zambia, Counselor Liu Guoyu of the Chinese Embassy, and other representatives from China and Zambia also attended the ceremony. Following the ceremony, Minister Musokotuwa and Ambassador Li Jie jointly signed the handover certificate for this donation.
