Chinese Government provides agricultural supplies in June 2020 (Linked to Record ID#57048).

Project narrative

On June 5, 2020, the Chinese Government donated a set of agricultural supplies to the Gambian Government. These materials will be used to improve the work of the Ministry of Agriculture in Gambia, especially their work on improving rice yields. The donation included 30 power tillers, 30 mini threshers, 25 irrigation pumps, 31 rice mills, a transplanter, a combine harvester, 10 tons of urea fertilizer, lubricants and spare parts. A handover ceremony was held for this donation in Banjul, the capital of Gambia. Ma Jianchun, China’s Ambassador to the Gambia, Amie Fabureh, the Minister of Agriculture, and the WFP's representative in Gambia attended the ceremony. During the ceremony, Ambassador Ma Jianchun and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Gambia, Momadou Tangara, signed the handover certificate and delivered speeches. This donation is part of a larger initiative by China to assist Gambia in agricultural technological development ( see Record ID#57048 for more details).
