Project narrative

On July 17, 2021, a handover ceremony was held for SICOMINES's donation of USD $300,000 of epidemic prevention materials and disaster relief funds, as well as some epidemic protective materials with a value of USD $500,000 to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The material donation included masks, coveralls, and other supplies to help protect workers from the pandemic. The aid was intended to assist victims of the 2021 eruption of Mount Nyiragongo in North Kivu, which killed 32 and wounded 1,000 Congolese citizens on May 22, 2021. Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the Congolese Minister of Health, the Congolese Minister of Social Affairs, and other senior Congolese government officials attended the event. Prime Minister Lukonde expressed gratitude for the assistance, and Ambassador Zhu Jing noted that the Huagang Mining Company's donation demonstrated the strong bond between China and the DRC.
