Project narrative

On September 17, 2021, the seventeenth Chinese medical team assigned to São Tomé and Príncipe departed China to fulfill their medical service of eighteen months. There were eight members of the team, including medical staff members from West China Hospital at Sichuan University, the Second West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and hospitals affiliated with Southwest Medical University. The team also had interpreters and cooks. During their stay in São Tomé and Príncipe, the team diagnosed local residents, donated medical supplies including PPE, and provided training for local doctors. They covered nineteen medical rounds, covering a total of 1300 kilometers during their stay and serving more than 1400 people. The team further executed the "São Tomé Island Youth Dental Fluoride Project," which provided free oral examinations to more than 1,400 youths across eleven elementary schools. The medical team was expected to return to China on March 15, 2023.
