Project narrative

On December 14, 2021, the Government of China donated USD 2 million to the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to help feed school children in the Karamoja region of northeastern Uganda. In February of the same year, China signed an agreement with the WFP to donate $2 million go to towards the purchase of 3,000 metric tons of food assistance to benefit 120,000 people, mostly students, at 300 schools in Karamoja. According to media sources, as of March 2022, China's donation reached over 130,000 children through the school feeding program and 70,000 individuals through targeted food assistance. The purpose of this donation is to support Uganda's children and their families to focus on education. The food was also purchased from local farmers to stimulate the local economy.
