Project narrative

On December 31, 2020, Zhang Maoyu, vice-chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), signed a cooperation agreement with a representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) that granted 1,000,000 USD to provide healthcare assistance to Sao Tome and Principe. The CIDCA and the UNFPA agreed to cooperate on providing healthcare assistance to Sao Tome and Principe and Gambia in Central and West Africa that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project, supported by the South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund, aims to improve the capabilities in pandemic control and response in Sao Tome and Principe and Gambia and ensure their health systems can continuously provide basic public health services such as reproductive and maternal care during the pandemic. The 1,000,000 USD was used to provide PPE and medical supply to health workers to ensure the continuity of sexual and reproductive health services and the supply of essential reproductive health commodities.
