Project narrative

On March 23, 2021, China dispatched the 34th medical team to Mauritania. The 34th team comprised 21 members, including 1 captain, 2 translators, 2 chefs, and 17 medical staff. The medical staff were assigned as follows: 4 to Capital Hospital, 5 to the National Institute of Public Health, 3 to the Friendship Hospital, and 5 to Kiffa Hospital in more remote areas. Their professional expertise covered orthopedics, radiology, anesthesiology, general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, nursing, epidemiology, bacterial virology, and food and water quality testing. On April 9, 2021, the 33rd and 34th Chinese medical teams jointly organized a one-day seminar. Since 1968, China has sent 34 Chinese medical teams that comprised 900 medical personnel. The purpose of the 34th medical mission is to assist Mauritania in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and cooperate with the embassy in the support pandemic prevention for Mauritanian.
