The Chinese Embassy in Port Vila Vanuatu granted 4 million Vatu to the government of Vanuatu to be used for a fireworks display for the country's 40th Independence Anniversary celebration. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau, was there to receive the grant. The coordinator of the 40th Independence Anniversary celebrations said that this grant would allow the fireworks celebration to expand from Port Vila to Luganville and five other provinces for the first time.
