On October 21, 2022, the Chinese Embassy handed over 100,000 masks to the Ministry of Education through the First Lady of Malawi, Monica Chakwera. The masks are intended for students in Malawi returning to in-person learning. Ambassador Liu Hongyang; the First Lady of Malawi, Monica Chakvira; and the Deputy Minister of Education, Madaliso Kambova attended the ceremony at the Kamuzu Presidential Palace and delivered speeches.
