Project narrative

On November 17, 2021, the Chinese Government through the South-South Cooperation Fund launched a food aid donation project to Guinea Bissau. This donation was made through the United Nations World Food Program. The fund purchased over 2,500 tons of food that served over 200,000 students at 700 schools in Guinea Bissau. On January 18, 2022, the Chinese government donated 725 metric tons of rice to the World Food Program in Guinea-Bissau. The rice was intended to support the school feeding program for the 2021-2022 school year. In May 2022, the Chinese Embassy of Guinea-Bissau paired with the World Food Program to donate 1.1 tons of rice to 364 children with disabilities. The rice was donated to three different schools for children with disabilities: White Bengal in Safim, Deaf-Blind School in Prábis, Mariposa School in Bissau. On May 18, 2022, the Chinese ambassador to Guinea-Bissau met with the regional liaison officer of the West Africa bureau of the World Food Program to discuss this donation. On May 26, 2022, a ceremony was held to celebrate the nutritious lunch distribution at the Cala Blanca Special Education School in Guinea-Bissau. Through the project, the Chinese government has provided free lunches to 364 students in 3 special education schools. On June 22, 2022, the Chinese embassy in Guinea Bissau held a final handover ceremony with World Food Program Representatives.
