Project narrative

On October 19, 2021, the Chinese government provided 50,000 face masks and food vouchers to the South African Department of Social Development. These supplies were donated to improve South Africa’s COVID-19 and food crisis response efforts. The monetary value of the face masks is unknown but the value of the food vouchers is an estimated ZAR 500,000. A handover ceremony was held for this donation at the Chinese Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. China’s Ambassador, Chen Xiaodong, South Africa’s Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu, and the chairperson for the African National Congress’ Subcommittee on International Relations attended the ceremony.
