Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On November 19, 2003, Consul General Chen Xiaoling of the Chinese Consulate-General in Toronto officiated a donation of books to the Cheng Yu-Ton Library of the University of Toronto. The value, amount, and contents of the donated books are unknown. The books were provided by China's Ministry of Culture, which had, along with the Chinese Ministry of Education, donated around 3,000 books to the Cheng Yu-Tong Library by 2003. The books were donated during a ceremony hosted by Ms. Carole Moore, Chief Curator of the library at the time. The ceremony hosted around 40 scholars, professors, and experts, as well as the Deputy Consul General, Pan Xinchun. The books were mean to allow Canadian scholars and students to "learn more about China's brilliant culture and latest social development and thus enhance the bilateral friendship and understanding between the two peoples".
