Project narrative

Between the Government of Pakistan’s Fiscal Year 2019 (July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020) and Fiscal Year 2020 (July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021), the Chinese Government and the Government of Pakistan signed letters of exchange, which officially committed a $4 million cash donation for a Quarantine Hospital Project (or Temporary Covid-19 Isolation Hospital Project). Construction began on March 25, 2020 and ended on May 10, 2020. Then, on July 9, 2020, Yao Jing, Ambassador to Pakistan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan attended the inauguration and opening ceremony of the China-aided COVID-19 Temporary Isolation Hospital — also known as the China-aided Isolation Hospital and Infections Treatment Center (IHITC) — in Islamabad. Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Bajwa, Minister of Planning Umer, Minister of Information Faraz, Chairman of the National Disaster Committee Afzal, Chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Bureau Asim and others attended. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of Pakistan, the IHITC was built in 40 days with the cooperation from China. The hospital has five different wards and 250 beds with maximum facilities to diagnose and treat the infectious diseases.
