Description
On May 17, 2021, the Chinese Government delivered 100,000 donated doses of Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of Oman’s Ministry of Health (MOH). The shipment arrived at Muscat International Airport. At the time, a statement issued online by MOH said ‘[a]s part of bilateral relations and cooperation between the Sultanate and the People's Republic of China, Oman received today a batch of Covid-19 vaccine (Sinovac), provided by China. The Chinese community living in the Sultanate has the priority to take the vaccine.’ Li Lingbing, the Chinese Ambassador to Oman, Nusseibeh, Director of the Medical Supplies Department of the Omani Ministry of Health, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Commercial Counselor Xie Zhongmei from the Embassy attended the vaccine handover ceremony held at Muscat International Airport, and the two sides signed the handover certificate. According to the Chinese Embassy, the vaccine donation was initially pledged by Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, during his March 2021 visit to Oman.
