Project narrative

In August and September of 2021, the 27th Chinese Medical Team sent by the Hubei Health Commission arrived in Algeria. The team comprised 81 total members with various specialties, including gynecology and obstetrics, anesthesia, surgery, and ophthalmology. Members of the 27th Chinese Medical Team were stationed at 14 public hospitals across 8 regions of Algeria. During their time in Algeria, the 27th Chinese Medical Team provided traditional Chinese medicinal care, emphasized the importance of cervical cancer screenings, held academic exchanges about pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes with local doctors, and supported epidemic control work in Algeria. The 27th Chinese Medical Team also provided medical services to overseas Chinese and employees of Chinese-funded companies. As of June 2022, the medical team had received 72,000 patients, admitted 45,000 hospitalizations, performed 17,000 operations of various types, and delivered 25,000 births. On September 3, 2023, a farewell ceremony was held for the 27th Chinese Medical Team at the headquarters of the Algerian Health Ministry. The team returned to China soon after.
