Project narrative

On December 7, 2021, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic announced the launch of the "Following the Chinese Dream" scholarship program, which provided 17 fully-funded scholarships for Kyrgyzstani attendance at an undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and language-specific level at unspecified institutions of higher education throughout the People's Republic of China. Then, on December 24, 2021, the Chinese Ministry of Education announced 6 more fully-funded scholarships. Participants were selected through a competition held at unknown locations in Bishkek. Non-scholarship prizes for second and third-placing contestants included laptops, smartphones, and tablets. The 6 additional scholarships were awarded on February 19, 2022, at a ceremony at Bishkek National University. This program was described as occurring within the framework of the "Agreement on Cooperation in Education between the Governments of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization", signed on June 15, 2006.
