Project narrative

On April 20, 2020, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China sent a medical team to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to provide COVID-19 aid. The team, invited by the government of Kyrgyzstan, consisted of 10 members. 6 of these members specialized in disease prevention and control, traditional Chinese medicine, and respiratory medicine. China’s Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Du Dewen, welcomed the team at the airport in Bishkek. During their stay in Bishkek, the team visited local hospitals and laboratories, communicated with officials and hospital principals, and held more than 20 seminars sharing their experiences in pandemic prevention and COVID-19 treatment. Following their week-long mission in Kyrgyzstan, an award ceremony was held to celebrate their achievements on April 26, 2020. The Health Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Sabirzhan Abdikarimov, awarded the Chinese medical team medals and certificates of honor at the ceremony. Vice Prime Minister, Aida Ismailova, also attended the ceremony and expressed gratitude to the team for their help with the COVID-19 pandemic in Kyrgyzstan. The medical team returned to China on April 27, 2020.
