Description

On March 23rd, 2020, the news site Infobae announced that Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez held an exchange of letters with Chinese President Xi Jinping, and was promised 1,500 ventilators as a donation. On April 17, 2020, Infobae reported that the Argentinian government was to send an Aerolíneas Argentinas plane to Shanghai to China to pick up 1,500 respirators donated by the Chinese Government and transport them back to Argentina. The plane was to be sent by Argentina, due to logistical challenges on the Chinese side, and the urgent need for respirators in Argentina due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a draft resolution from Argentina's parliament, the respirators were promised by Xi Jinping. However, according to a report from Infobae on April 26, the donation was cancelled due to lack of capacity on the Chinese side.
