Project narrative

On January 25, 2022, Huang Luqi, Deputy Director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Meng Wenxing, Minister of Health of Cambodia, held talks at the Cambodian Ministry of Health, and signed the Agreement between the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on sending Traditional Chinese Medicine anti-epidemic medical teams to Cambodia on behalf of both sides. Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wu Zhendou, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and You Samba, Secretary of the Cambodian Ministry of Health, attended the meeting. Then, on March 16, 2022, the first TCM anti-epidemic medical team arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The medical team consisted of ten members selected by the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and was organized by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The team of experts was welcomed by the Cambodian Health Ministry's Secretary of State, Oeun Boraroth, and the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, Wu Guoquan, at the Phnom Penh International Airport. The expert team carried out medical tasks at the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital's TCM clinic, including sharing China’s experience in treating COVID-19 patients, carrying out clinical diagnosis, and treating various diseases. The team conducted epidemic prevention and control, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medical treatment and training, and shared China's experience in epidemic prevention and control with the Cambodian teams. On July 17, 2023, the medical team completed their mission and returned to Beijing. At the welcome ceremony held for the team after their return, it was reported that the experts provided more than 16,000 outpatient services and 6,000 voluntary clinical services during their stay in Cambodia.
