Project narrative

In 2022, State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) and Guangxi University for Nationalities jointly set up the "SPIC Green ASEAN Scholarship". The scholarship allocates funding from 2022-2026. The total amount of the scholarship is 5 million Chinese Yuan, with an annual amount of 1 million yuan. Scholarships are issued annually in April, with the total 1 million yuan awarded to 200 students per year. If the amount of recipients falls short of 200 in a given year, the remaining scholarships will be rolled over to the next year. The total amount per student is RMB 5,000 issued in RMB cash. Students are able to apply once per year, every year, and they must be an international student from an ASEAN country. After 2026, SPIC and Guangxi Minzu University will negotiate an extension to the scholarship following the results of an evaluation. The scholarship aims to promote the concept of clean energy development and encourage students from ASEAN countries to grow holistically, contributing to China-ASEAN cooperation, renewable energy transformation and development, benefiting ASEAN countries and their populations. On June 5, 2024, the 2nd Award Ceremony of the SPIC Green ASEAN Scholarship was held at Guangxi Minzu University, honouring 126 international students from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos and other countries. As of July 2024, a total of 304 international students have received the award.
