Project narrative

On August 17, 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka donated 30,000 surgical masks and 21,000 COVID-19 prevention posters to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) and 100,000 COVID-19 prevention posters to the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB). The posters were in the Sinhala and Tamil languages. The masks and posters were intended to be distributed to thousands of bus drivers and conductors and to be distributed in public places including bus stops, railway stations, markets, hospitals, schools, health institutions, government offices, and workplaces across Sri Lanka. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. A handover ceremony was held for this donation. Hu Wei, the Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, handed over the medical masks to Kinsley Ranawaka, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB). The Chinese Envoy also handed over the COVID-19 prevention posters to Dr. Uthpala Amarasinghe, a representative of the Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) of Sri Lanka, during the ceremony.
