Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2015, Ecuador's Secretariat for Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (or Sensecyt) and the Chinese Ministry of Education signed a Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement for the provision of five years worth of scholarships for Ecuadorian students. The Chinese Ministry of Education agreed to finance up to 300 scholarships, beginning with the 2016-2017 school year and ending with the 2020-2021 school year. Up to 60 scholarships were available for the 2020-2021 academic year. However, it is unknown if students applied for/received these scholarships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In materials about the 2021-2022 scholarship (provided under a new cooperation agreement), the Government of Ecuador indicated that students that received the scholarship would attend the university of their choice in an online modality.
