Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2018, CNOOC Petroleum North America ULC, under its alternative operating name CNOOC International, donated $34,500 CAD to United Way Fort McMurray and Woof Buffalo. The CNOOC subsidiary matched independent donations from its employees through the subsidiary's ReachOut program. The campaign was run at the subsidiary's Long Lake oil sands facility and its community office in Anzac, described as a continuation of the subsidiary's ongoing support for the province of Alberta after the 2016 wildfires.

Staff comments

1. The donation amount of CAD 34,500 was calculated by dividing the total donated amount of CAD 69,000 in half. The donor source describes the total donation number as consisting of "direct donations from our workforce" and "matching funds", implying that half of the donated funds were independent donations from the donor's employees, not from the donor organization itself. AidData has assumed CNOOC matched employee donations on an one to one basis. 2. The employee matching program cited as the source of the donation was likely the same as, or related to, the matching program described in Record ID#95265.
