Project narrative

The Chinese Government delivered 100,000 donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Maldives on March 24, 2021 (as captured via Record ID#94774). The shipment arrived at Velana International Airport and was handed over on the next day (March 25, 2021). Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Zhang Lizhong, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Maldivian Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem participated in the handover ceremony. An additional batch of donated medical supplies for fighting COVID-19 was included in the handover ceremony (as captured via Record ID#95584). Then, on March 30, 2021, the Chinese Government delivered another 100,000 donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Maldives (as captured via Record ID#95395). In July 2021, the Chinese Government pledge to donate another 400,000 doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Maldives (as captured via Record ID#95428). However, it is unclear if this pledge was ever fulfilled.
