Project narrative

In 2019, Dongguan Water Affairs Bureau — a government agency in Dongguang City within China’s Guangdong Province — provided a TOP $1.4 million grant to the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga for the National Water Tank Project. The purpose of this project is to install 6,000 water tanks throughout Tonga. M & J Water Tank Company is the contractor responsible for implementation. A project implementation agreement was signed on August 24, 2021. Then, on September 22, 2021, during National Climate Change Awareness Week, Mr. Cao Xiaolin, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tonga, officially handed over 500 water tanks to the Hon. Pohiva Tui’onetoa, the Prime Minister of the Government of Tonga. These tanks were installed in Tongatapu, ‘Eua and Vava’u. Then, on October 14, 2021, His Excellency Mr. Cao Xiaolin and his team from the Chinese Embassy’s office in Tonga inspected the water tanks that were installed in Tongatapu. Then, another project implementation agreement was signed on August 23, 2022.
