Project narrative

On March 20, 2020, Chinese Ambassador Hu Wei handed off a donation of 100,000 face masks (which included 10,000 N-95 masks) and 20,000 COVID-19 tests to Sri Lanka's Health Minister Pavitra Vanniarachchi. Furthermore, on the same day, Health Minister Vanniarachchi asked Ambassador Hu Wei for the provision of 100,000 units of personal protective equipment.

Staff comments

1. The source mentions "the Ambassador donated one lakh of face masks including 10,000 N-95 masks and 20,000 test kits...", therefore AidData codes the total number of masks donated as 100,000 units because one lakh is equivalent to 100,000 according to Google's Oxford Languages. AidData has estimated the transaction amount for this donation based on price catalogues from the World Health Organization (WHO). Please see the TUFF Methodology for additional details.
