Project narrative

In 2021 and 2022, the Chinese Government donated approximately 640,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Republic of Congo. On March 10, 2021, the Chinese Government delivered 200,000 donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Republic of Congo. The handover ceremony was held in Brazzaville, Congo. The ceremony was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Congo Ma Fulin, Congolese Foreign Minister Gacoso, Minister of Health Mikolo, Minister of Defense Moncho (Coordinator of the National Anti-epidemic Mechanism), and WHO Representative in Congo Manga. Then, on March 25, 2021, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China donated an additional 40,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses to the Congolese Ministry of National Defense. The Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Congo, Ma Fulin, and the Congolese Minister of National Defense, Mr. Charles Richard Mondjo, received the batch of vaccines and they were then delivered to the Congolese Ministry of National Defense on March 26, 2021. On May 14, 2021, the Chinese Government delivered 200,000 additional donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Republic of Congo. The vaccines arrived at Maya-Maya airport in Brazzaville, Congo. The donation was given to the Congolese Government, represented by the Minister of Health Mrs. Jacqueline Lydia Mikolo, from the Chinese Ambassador to Congo Ma Fulin. Approximately 8 months later, on January 20, 2022, the Chinese Government delivered 200,000 donated doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines to the Government of the Republic of Congo. The donation came after Chairman Xi pledged to donate 1 billion more vaccine doses to Africa during the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in November 29, 2021. The March 10, 2021 donation from the Chinese Government is captured in Record ID#93571. The March 25, 2021 donation from the PLA is captured in Record ID#93670. The May 14, 2021 donation from the Chinese Government is captured in Record ID#93573. The January 20, 2022 donation from the Chinese Government is captured in this project.
