In July 2021, the Ministry of Finance of Trinidad and Tobago announced that it was negotiating an EUR 175 million ($204 million) loan agreement with China Development Bank (CDB) for the purchase of medical equipment and supplies, pharmaceuticals, PPE and other approved purposes. However, on June 30, 2022, the Debt Management Division of Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Finance informed AidData that 'the loan with the China Development Bank is [still] being negotiated and the loan agreement has not been executed.' Then, on July 12, 2023, the Debt Management Division of Trinidad and Tobago's Ministry of Finance informed AidData that '[t]he Loan Agreement with the China Development Bank is no longer being pursued.'
