Description

On September 2, 2020, the Chinese Embassy provided school bags and stationary to over 700 students in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The students were from 19 local schools, each with different religious and ethnic backgrounds, whose education was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This donation was made in the hopes of improving education opportunities for these students. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. A handover ceremony was held for this donation in the Alshidaya School Auditorium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Hu Wei, Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy, attended the ceremony and presented the supplies to students and staff. Principles of the 19 schools, nearly 100 student representatives, and journalists from Chinese and Sri Lankan media attended the event.
