Project narrative

On August 17, 2021, the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense received notification of 200,000 COVID-19 vaccines and 201,600 single use syringes to be donated by the Chinese Ministry of Defense. The vaccines arrived on August 23, 2021. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. Hoàng Xuân Chiến, Vietnamese deputy defense minister and member of the Government’s working group on COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy, and Chinese ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo, chaired the reception ceremony at Nội Bài International Airport in Hanoi. This was the first donation of vaccines Vietnam received from a foreign government.
