Project narrative

On March 8, 2023, the Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, Long Zhou, attended a completion ceremony for the National Assembly Renovation Project. The purpose of the project was to repair roof leaks and broken floor tiles in Malawi's National Assembly (Parliament) building. The project was financed with a grant from the Chinese Government worth MWK 1.5 billion and it took four months to completion. At the project completion ceremony, Malawi's Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara, expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government for reaching out and assisting with maintenance of major areas that were most critical and required immediate action. The Chinese ambassador previously donated a batch of equipment to the parliament building, as recorded in Record ID#30048.
