Description
In 2018, the Chinese Government provided a $10 million grant to the Government of Uganda for the Access to Satellite TV for 10,000 African Villages Project. The purpose of the project is to reduce the digital divide in rural areas by giving villages access to digital television. The project consisted of two phases. Phase 1 sought to provide 500 villages across the country with two StarTimes Projector TVs, one 32-inch Digital TV set and 20 DTH decoders and satellite dishes. Projector TVs and Digital TV sets were equipped with solar power system and DTH access units.. Phase 2 provided training to engineers who will be responsible for fixing the satellite TV facilities in the villages. StarTimes Uganda was the contractor responsible for project implementation. Phase 1 was completed in January 2019. Phase 2 commenced in August 2021 and was scheduled for completion on December 25, 2021. The project ultimately reached completion on October 15, 2022.
