In July 2021, the Chinese Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Pakistan to donate 3,000 sets of solar systems to Pakistan to help address climate change. Then, on September 23, 2021, the Chinese Government and the Government of Pakistan signed letters of exchange (LoE), which committed RMB 21 million of grant funding for the Solar-Powered Lighting Equipment Project. The purpose of the project is to supply 3,000 sets of solar-powered lighting equipment systems to Balochistan. The equipment was originally expected to be dispatched by mid-2022. As of mid-May 2022, 1,000 panels had been installed and the remaining were to be installed after the Eid al-Fitr holidays in June 2022.
